Two Word Ambigram Generator
Two words, or two names, in one design. The first reads the normal way; turn it 180° and the second one appears.
Best styles for your word, most readable first
Each design reads your word upright and a second word upside down. Tap one to open it.
How a two-word ambigram works
Each letter shape does two jobs. Upright it's a letter of your first word; turned 180° it's a letter of the second word, read from the other end. So the first letter of one word shares a shape with the last letter of the other, the second with the second-to-last, and so on. That's why both words need the same number of letters, and why some pairs read better than others.
- Type the word or name you want to read normally in the first box.
- Type the word for the upside-down side in the second box, with the same number of letters.
- Look through the styles, which are sorted by how clearly both words read, and press Rotate 180° to check the second word.
- Download the PNG or copy a link to share it.
Find a second word that flips well
Only have one word? Type it on its own and the generator lists words of the same length that pair well with it, each with a preview, from popular tattoo words and names. It's also the quickest fix when a word doesn't read cleanly by itself: the right partner can read much better than the word paired with itself.
Two-word ambigram ideas
- Family: mom and dad, papa and mama, or a parent's name with a child's name.
- Pairs of animals or ideas: wolf and lion, smile and pride, free and fate.
- Couples: both names in one design, like Jack and Rose, Emma and Liam, or Noah and Ella.
- Opposites: love and hate, good and evil, angel and demon.
- A name and a word: someone's name upright and a word that matters to them upside down.
Be ready for some pairs to come out more stylized than others. Classic opposites like love and hate are hard to flip cleanly in any style, because their letters don't line up well, while pairs like wolf and lion or mom and dad read clearly both ways. The rating under each design tells you which you've got.
When the words have different lengths
Every letter needs a partner, so the words must match in length. Try a nickname or short form (Kate for Katherine), a longer form of the shorter name, or a synonym with the right number of letters. For names, the name ambigram generator lists couples that already match.
Getting it tattooed
Two-word ambigrams are a favorite for couples' and opposites tattoos because each reader sees a different word. Print the design at the size you want, read it both ways, and bring the PNG to your artist. The ambigram tattoo guide has tips on size and placement.
FAQ
Is the two word ambigram generator free?
Yes. Make as many two-word and two-name ambigrams as you like and download them as PNG images, with no account or sign-up.
Can I make an ambigram with two names?
Yes. Type one name in each box. The design reads the first name upright and the second name upside down, as long as both names have the same number of letters.
Why do both words need the same number of letters?
Each letter shape does two jobs: one way up it's a letter of the first word, the other way up it's a letter of the second word. So every letter needs a partner, and the two words have to be the same length.
Which words make the best two-word ambigrams?
Pairs whose letters line up well when turned. The letter at the start of one word shares a shape with the letter at the end of the other, so pairs like n and u, d and p, b and q, a and e, h and y, or m and w help a lot. Type one word and the generator suggests partners that flip well with it.
Can I use a two-name design for a couple's tattoo?
Yes. Designs are free for personal use, including tattoos. Download the PNG and let your artist refine the lines for skin.
